Inside 311 with Mark Drew

F311: What was your inspiration for this shoot/image?
Mark Drew: My inspiration for this shoot was a song titled “Trouble” by Jay-Z ?lyrics: “I try to pretend we’re different, but in the end, we are all the same”

F311: Are there things like music, art and culture that influence your work?
M.D: Oh yes! I am influenced by all of it. I want pain & pleasure. I love emotion! I want to be moved!

F311: Is there anyone you would like to work in the future with?
M.D: There is a very long list of people I want to work with, but off the tip of my tongue…?I intend on working with Yohji Yamamoto, he inspires me to no end.

F311: Your favorite shoot to date? Why?
M.D: My favorite shoot was with Eva J. Kubatova. ?Eva was a muse for Steven Meisel and its not hard to see why. She moves like poetry. She is sensual, exciting, and provocative and I was captivated. I wanted to sit and watch her every move.

F311: What was the location of this shoot? (If studio -where)
M.D: The location for shooting this image was on the roof top of the agency in New York.

F311: Who was in charge of styling and hair&make-up?
M.D: Debra G. was the stylist, Edward Cruz took care of grooming and makeup.

F311: Who do you admire? Why?
M.D: I admire anyone who rises to challenge. Anyone who overcomes hardships?to become a success. The unpopular kid who no one talks to, sittings in the corner ?with his/her dreams to keep them occupied. One day that kid achieves what others only dream to be. That is the person I admire.

F311: Any professional regrets?
M.D: No regrets, my life is pretty F***ing good.

F311: And finally…when will you come and visit us at our new Soho HQ’s?
M.D: I live on the other side of the pond. I can be there next week if you have something a client needs shot.
But unofficially, I plan on a visit next August. I will be in Vienna anyway.
